Lessons Learned in the Ring: The Importance of Cardio Training and Humility

In my previous post, I recounted the humbling experience I encountered during my first amateur boxing match, where my lack of cardio training became glaringly evident. Reflecting on that pivotal moment, I realized the need to reassess my workout regimen. Upon seeking advice from my boxing coach, I made significant changes, incorporating resistance sprints such as uphill sprints and long-distance running into my routine.

My schedule became packed as I juggled weightlifting sessions with uphill sprints on Mondays and Wednesdays, followed by a 4k jog every Friday. I also dedicated time to boxing training on Thursdays and occasional Saturdays, fully immersing myself in the spirit of perseverance and dedication akin to Rocky Balboa.

However, just as I was gearing up for my next boxing match, a new opportunity arose: admission to medical school. With this pivotal transition, my fitness priorities shifted. Yet, the lessons learned from my boxing days remain deeply ingrained. I've come to appreciate the significance of cardio training and the value of humility in every aspect of life.

Even after a decade, I continue to integrate hill sprints or similar exercises into my weekly routine. It's a testament to the enduring impact of that formative experience and the vital role of cardio in achieving overall fitness and resilience.
